Connecting With Life

What itches should be scratched…

I have many goals in my life, some are small, some not so small, but I can’t say that I have a single life goal.

I’ve spent some time thinking about this and I’m certain that my main purpose in life is not to earn some money, and own a house and a car – even if I happen to do all three of these.

Do you live life with purpose?

Living with porpoises

With all deference to Scott Adams, I too am thankful for all the fish – but I’m not quite ready to leave the planet.

Between Jack Canfield’s Success Principles and Joe Calloway’s Becoming a Category of One, I’ve tried to help you find your niche in life.  (I hope you’ve had some success with that)

But I see too many grumpy people, working in jobs they hate, to think that enough of us spend the time to find interesting things to work on – things that will make us go wow at the end of the day.

And as I wrote in the introduction above – I don’t know that I have a single life goal. And while I’m comforted by the stability in many aspects of my life, I enjoy and thrive on the new and different experiences life throws at me. What that means is that I have a set of life goals that revolve around bringing insightful thought to the world.  (A single goal would be ever-so-limiting to me;-)

The openness of this life purpose allows me to see the continuity of life’s changes.

Life is change

I read so often about how people are afraid of change – that through action or inaction, they try to keep things exactly the same.

  • People unable to get out of the rut they’ve been in for thirty years
  • Organizations that are afraid to update their vision
  • Radio stations featuring only the music of a specific period

From where I sit, it’s essential to balance the stability of the rising of the sun with the changing of the seasons.  One is consistent, the other is consistent in its change.

What you may not be able to determine is the right rate of change for a situation. Is it something new and different every hour, or is it as constant as Gibraltar (Which while known for it’s enduring qualities is clearly a geological marvel and subject to the same dynamic forces that created the world).

Life’s an itch

So here I am, making fun of another catch-phrase – it really isn’t that word beginning with a “b” – life presents you with tremendous opportunities, enriching experiences, and significant challenges – that occasional itch.

Some you’re expected to scratch.

Others you’re challenged to ignore.

And as you start connecting to life, you get a clue as to which ones are which.
