Half of 8

What do you see?

I enjoyed this at a seminar a number of years back, and either it’s stale and that sort of speaker doesn’t use it anymore, or people have forgotten…-)

So quickly now – write your answer to this down – what is half of 8?

Four

Yes, this is clearly an answer – and you’d be absolutely correct to have written it down.

That didn’t come to my mind though…

Three

And here’s one that you might think longer about – and take the right half of the 8, and have 3…

I didn’t think of this one either – and truthfully, a 3 is generally more than half of the 8, it’s more like 3/4 of it;-)

The reverse of this provides the letter E, and again I’d say, it is a representation of E, but not a very good one.

Zero

This was in fact my answer – the top (or bottom) half of 8 is very much a 0.

Letter games

And yes, you could take the word “eight” and play some sorts of letter games to form interesting things by taking “half” of them.

But in my world, that goes from being creative to forcing an issue…

The road less traveled

I’m certain that my tendency to take the road less traveled was well established before I read Frost’s “The Road Not Taken” in High School – but that is one of my core attributes.

I’ll happily take any path … but if you set me in front of a path that most other people have taken, and a less utilized one, I’ll head off on the other. (actually, I’m just as likely to break my own trail, but that is perhaps a story for another day;-)

Knowing your preference

Least I suggest that any of those answers (or any other answer!) is better or worse, I must repeat – I made my own answer for reasons that made sense to me.  Your reasoning is completely your own!

But knowing why you answered it the way you did – that’s an area you might want to explore.
